Abstract: This invited talk traces the POLAR journey end to end. It begins with the history and motivation of POLAR, why measuring online polarization across languages, cultures, and events matters, and how the project took shape. It then introduces the POLAR dataset (for 22 languages), a benchmark for multilingual, multicultural, and multi-event online polarization, covering its design, annotation methodology, and the challenges of building culturally grounded resources at scale. The talk closes with the POLAR shared task, presenting how the benchmark is being used to drive community evaluation and to advance research on polarization detection across diverse settings.
